Easier to learn, for foreigners, but too many vocalic "H"s - you know what I
mean. Might as well knock out the vocalic "H"s and then you almost have a
Thai-style alphabet - which would be a pity! Nonetheless, a simplified style
of writing would greatly help literacy in Cambodia, and once you had
mastered the simplified style, the traditional style could be learnt very
quickly so that the wealth of writings and literature would not be
forgotten.
But don't make the same mistake as the Beijing Chinese! They only half
reformed their written language from Traditional to Simplified, and could
have gone a lot further. Current transliteration of Khmer names into the
Latin alphabet is based on French language usage and causes some confusion
for Anglo-Saxons.
